Founded as a small wholesale fabric store on June 26, 1986, in Brusque, the name Havan is the combination of the initial syllables of the names of the company's two founding partners: Luciano Hang and Vanderlei de Limas. [6]

In 1989, its own headquarters was built, now at its current address, on Antonio Heil Highway, in the center of Brusque. The facilities have undergone several expansions over the years, until reaching the current structure, of 30 thousand square meters of sales area. In one of these extensions, the stylized façade of the White House - headquarters of the American government - that characterizes Havan's architectural projects was adopted. Another element incorporated into the Havan concept was the construction of the replica of the Statue of Liberty.

In the early 1990s, Havan started to import fabrics and articles of low added value, to serve retailers throughout Brazil. In 1999, two branches were created in Curitiba. The currency devaluation made Havan set a new course, starting to operate in the department store segment. New branches were opened in Florianópolis, Criciúma, Joinville and Balneário Camboriú.
