Sir Bernard Partridge's "FASHIONS" series: 1910s


Brown died in 1910-he died soon after undergoing cancer surgery at the age of 39. He was replaced by cartoonist Sir Bernard Partridge, who was the chief writer of Punch magazine from 1909 to 1945. Partridge painted the "Walker" for four years. During these four years, "Stride Forward" cultivated a taste for fashion, city life and women. Instead of carrying gifts and fishing, the “walkers” of this period have gained weight and have a group of infatuated admirers. "Fashion is changeable," the newspaper slogan said, "except for Johnnie Walker."
